Job description

As Internal Auditor you will perform operational, financial, integrated and information systems audits on various areas and business units across Europe and completing special IA related projects as required. You will be working on your own and there will be a close cooperation with the Internal Auditor in Asia.

Furthermore, you are responsible for developing, initiating, evaluating and improving the internal compliance and the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes and supporting external audits by providing a copy of the Annual Internal Audit Plan and access to internal audit reports when requested.

You will plan, organize, direct, perform and monitor internal audit activities within company’s units inside Europe.

You will be based in the Amsterdam office. The office has total of 5 people.

You will need to travel in line with the function of IA, so travelling abroad on audits for up to 4-5 days at a time. Occasionally (rarely) you may be requested to travel for a longer period, however not exceeding 2 weeks. The total travel expectation is approximately 50%.

Apart from the audits at various locations abroad (Europe & Turkey), the work will be carried out at the office in Amsterdam.

The most important tasks and responsibilities include:
• Contributing to the further optimization of diverse business processes
• Preparing and/or reviewing internal planning process, audit programs and procedures, processes internal documentation and reports on audit work in process
• Performing and coordinating operational, financial, integrated and information systems audits to ensure that internal controls and governance processes are properly designed and operate effectively and efficiently
• Carrying out independent audits and reviews of the efficiency and effectiveness of risk management within processes of the various business units and corporate departments
• Examining records of departments and interviewing staff to ensure recording of transactions and compliance with applicable laws and regulations and management policy
• Inspecting accounting systems to determine their efficiency and security aspects
• Reviewing records pertaining to material assets, such as equipment and buildings, and staff to determine degree to which they are utilized
• Analyzing data obtained for evidence of deficiencies in controls, duplication of effort, extravagance, fraud, or lack of compliance with laws, government regulations, and management policies or procedures
• Analyzing the results of these audits and reviews, drawing conclusions and preparing reports of findings and recommendations for management through written reports and presentations; discussing these and agreeing on measures of improvement
• Planning audits and reviews of a more ad-hoc nature
• Test that reporting systems provide correct information to senior management to allow them to monitor the business and to follow up on improvements which have been decided on
• Maintaining contact with the external auditors regarding individual assignment and reviewing work performed at their request
• Involving experts where necessary
• Performing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) audits at European supplier locations to ensure their compliance with company’s Supplier Code of Conduct in terms of Labour, Health & Safety, & Workplace environment.

This includes but is not limited to:
• compliance with management's established policies and procedures and best practices
• responsibility for compliance with applicable laws; compliance with management's established policies and procedures and best practices.


The right person for this role:
• minimum MA degree, preferably CIA and/ or CISA
• experience in working with an international company with a wide range of functions/tasks in different countries
experience in working within retail or manufacturing is required
• 20+ years experience in internal or external audit (BIG 4 is a plus), risk management and finance background
• is fluent in English (C1/C2) knowledge of any other languages, especially one of the Scandinavian languages, would be beneficial
• has good interpersonal and communication skills (all levels) and is a good listener, offering advice and solutions
• is an analytical, flexible, self-motivated person, creative and has integrity, outside-the- box thinking, common sense and a hands-on mentality
willing to travel approx. 50%
• living in Amsterdam region is highly preferable
• sponsorship will not be offered

Working conditions

This concerns a long term, full time role on contract directly with the client.
Our client offers a competitive salary depending on experience and:

  • the employee receives 10% of the gross monthly salary for privately arranging a pension;
  • a maximum travel allowance has been set at € 100 per month;
  • 25 vacation days based on full-time employment;
