Moving to the Netherlands

The Netherlands is one of the most multicultural countries in Europe. Almost 90% of the Dutch population speaks English and many international businesses have made this little country their home. That means that there are a lot of English speaking jobs in the Netherlands ready for you to take on.

It isn’t surprising that a lot of English speakers are choosing to come live and work in the Netherlands. With many job opportunities in our big cities, you can easily find a place suitable for you. On top of that, living in the Netherlands is a great experience. The Dutch are friendly, the historic cities are beautiful with their canals, charming cobbled streets and occasional cafes. And once you get the hang of riding your bicycle like a true Dutchie, you’ll never want any other form of transportation!

If you’re planning on moving here, luckily, the Netherlands is a part of the European Union and allows fellow members from other EU countries free access to live and work here. You won’t even need a permit. However, if you’re planning on staying longer than three months, you will need to register yourself with the IND (immigration and naturalisation service). And even if you’re not from the EU, it is still quite easy to get jobs in the Netherlands. All you need to do is apply for a work permit and start job hunting.

Expat jobs in the Netherlands

As a highly trained expat, finding jobs in the Netherlands isn’t hard to do. With a range of international and multinational companies setting up shop in the Netherlands, finding English speaking jobs shouldn’t be a problem. Especially if you have the right qualifications a lot of Dutch companies are looking for. If you have just left university or you’re a highly-skilled migrant, there will be a job for you.

Once your job hunt has been successful and you have found a job that looks perfect for you, you will need to prepare a few things for your application. Starting off with a CV that matches what Dutch companies are looking for. A Dutch CV starts with your details, followed by all your work experience, including part-time and volunteering. You should also list your skills and qualities as well as your education. Dutch companies like to get to know you, so you should definitely add some personal information like interests and hobbies. Try to keep it to two pages maximum and don’t forget to include a cover letter and some references!

Now that you’ve got your Dutch CV covered it's time to talk about jobs in the Netherlands. It is no surprise that jobs in Amsterdam are the most sought after by internationals coming to the Netherlands. The capital city is known as an international hub and for it’s roaring tourist trade. There are plenty of small and large businesses who rely on international sales that require an English speaking professional. English is the worlds’ business language after all.

Other locations where you can easily find expat jobs in the Netherlands are Utrecht, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Maastricht and even some of the smaller cities such as Gouda and Hilversum. No matter what area of the Netherlands you choose to call home, you are bound to find something that caters to your needs.
