Job hunting can feel like a full-time job and figuring out the best moves to make can be confusing, especially in a new labour market. Getting a peek inside the mind of a recruiter can make this process a bit easier. So, let us help with that! In this blog series our experienced recruitment consultants share their top tips to help you succeed in your job search. Learn how to make your application stand out, impress recruiters, and move through the job application process smoothly by following the advice of our experts. This month’s tips are brought to you by our recruitment consultant from Utrecht, Büşra Korkmaz - Van de Kleut.
Express genuine interest in the role and the company. Recruiters are looking for candidates who are not only qualified but also passionate. Your enthusiasm can set you apart from other candidates and will help the recruiter keep you in mind for future opportunities.
Many candidates see recruiters as a step to impress in order to move forward to the next stage (meeting the client), which is partially true. However, it should also be considered that we recruiters do not focus on only one opportunity, which means that in the future, or even simultaneously, we might have more opportunities for you. Therefore, it is really important to communicate your career goals, salary expectations, and preferred work environment openly. This helps recruiters understand what you are looking for and ensures they can match you with roles that align with your aspirations and needs. Clear communication can prevent potential mismatches which could put you on another job search in the long run.
Pay close attention to the questions being asked and provide straightforward answers. Avoid giving socially desirable responses that may not reflect your true preferences or experiences. Recruiters appreciate honesty and are better able to place you in suitable positions when they have a clear understanding of your background and expectations.
While being clear about your general background and preferences, it is still important to take some time to focus on discussing the skills and experiences that are most relevant to the role you're applying for. Tailor your answers to showcase how your background aligns with the job requirements. This targeted approach helps recruiters quickly see the value you bring and how you can contribute to the role.
