Tip From a Recruiter - Nina Pfisterer

Job hunting can feel like a full-time job and figuring out the best moves to make can be confusing, especially in a new labour market. Getting a peek inside the mind of a recruiter can make this process a bit easier. So, let us help with that! In this blog series our experienced recruitment consultants share their top tips to help you succeed in your job search. Learn how to make your application stand out, impress recruiters, and move through the job application process smoothly by following the advice of our experts. This month’s tips are brought to you by our recruitment consultant from Utrecht, Nina Pfisterer.

TIP 1 - Get to know yourself and what you want, and communicate it!

When you integrate honesty and authenticity with self-awareness, magic happens. Take the time to understand your strengths, weaknesses, and dreams. That way, you can genuinely connect with recruiters and show them the real you. Knowing what you want in a role – your career goals, values, and ideal work environment – empowers you to confidently pursue opportunities that truly resonate with who you are. And trust me, that authenticity builds trust with recruiters and sets you on the path to a fulfilling career.

TIP 2 - Try Volunteer or Internship Opportunities

Consider volunteering or taking on internships in Dutch organizations to gain valuable experience, build your professional network, and improve your chances of securing a full-time job in the future. Not only does it give you valuable experience and connections, but it also helps you get the hang of the Dutch work culture and language!

TIP 3 - Do not apply for vacancies if you do not speak the required language at the required level

If you lack proficiency in the required language, refrain from applying, saving both you and the recruiter valuable time. Applying without meeting language requirements can convey a lack of attention to detail regarding the job description.

TIP 4 - Stay Flexible and Open-Minded

Stay open to exploring diverse industries, roles, and locations that compliment your skills and passions as you navigate your career in the Dutch market. Recognize that limited Dutch language proficiency may require added flexibility and proactive measures to achieve your desired career trajectory. Embracing adaptability heightens your chances of finding an ideal job fit and advancing your professional journey.
