Meet Our Partner - EMG

As an international there are a lot of steps to figure out in order to make your dream of working and living in the Netherlands a reality. It can be overwhelming to try and decipher the Dutch system and to know who to turn to for help. Although our focus at Undutchables is on helping you find a job, we know that getting established in the Netherlands involves more than just landing a great new position. That's why we have teamed up with some great companies that can assist you with the other steps of the process. We interviewed one of our partners this week and want to give you a chance to get to know them and learn about their services as well, so without further ado, let us introduce our relocation and financial services partner - EMG.

1. What is EMG?

EMG is a leading provider of global mobility solutions in the Dutch market, offering decades of expertise and an empathetic approach. Our dedicated team of twelve helps companies hire, employ, and relocate international talent with world-class practices. Our services include tax and immigration advisory, compliance, destination services, and move management, ensuring a smooth process for all. As a trusted partner, we ensure that international talent feels at home, allowing you to focus on what truly matters.

2. Why do you do what you do?

At EMG, we believe every expat’s move to the Netherlands is more than just a relocation process - it is a new chapter in life and a shared experience for both your company and its new international talent.
We do not just handle the paperwork; we walk alongside you and your new hire, providing support, guidance, and expertise every step of the way. Our mission is to simplify global mobility, making it possible for people from abroad to feel at home while working in your company.

3. Which products/services do you offer?

For over 15 years EMG has provided a variety of services including - immigration, relocation, tax support, partner support, household moving, school and home searches, departure assistance, as well as support for companies when they hire international talent.

We also provide payrolling services (employer-of-record), especially for companies who are not a recognized sponsor yet, and can provide support with obtaining recognized sponsorship as well as inhouse compliance training for HR and recruitment departments.

4. What is the current market like in your industry?

The Dutch housing market remains tight, especially in cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht. Finding suitable accommodation has become a major challenge as rents continue to rise and access to housing (both temporary and long-term) is increasingly limited.

Additionally, clients are seeking more comprehensive settling-in services. They value help with essentials such as registering with the municipality, opening bank accounts, arranging health insurance and schooling, as well as language and cultural orientation support. Expert advice on tax, legal, and social security matters is also essential, especially for cross-border employees and employers operating in the Netherlands.

5. What are your unique selling points for the international community?

At EMG, our strength lies in our people and our holistic approach to global mobility. EMG has everything under one roof - from housing and relocation to tax, legal, and social support - ensuring a smooth and seamless experience for both employees and employers.

Our committed team is passionate about the support we offer to our clients. As they have lived and worked abroad themselves, they truly understand the challenges, important details, and emotions that come with relocating to a new country. This personal experience shapes our empathetic, hands-on approach.

6. What has been your most memorable moment working with internationals?

Without a doubt, it’s the diversity. Working with people from all over the world, each bringing their own culture, language, and perspective, is both interesting and rewarding and makes every day memorable.

7. Do you have any industry tips for our readers?

  • Cultural adjustment and integration: It’s not just moving things - people’s partners, families, schooling, language, and social life matter a lot. Poor settling in can lead to attrition so make sure to think about all aspects when helping your employee (or yourself) settle in a new country.
  • Sustainability and ESG considerations: Companies increasingly expect or demand more sustainable practices (e.g. greener moving options, carbon offset, efficient logistics) in relocation. The Netherlands often ranks high in environmental awareness, so relocation providers are expected to deliver according to these expectations. Keep this in mind when creating the relocation plan for your new employees.
  • More tailored / flexible offerings: Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, there is increasingly more demand for customizable relocation packages (depending on family situation, length of stay, seniority, etc.), so consider offering flexibility in line with the diversity of your new hires so that you can accommodate a variety of needs and preferences.
