Tip From a Recruiter -Eliska Prusova

Job hunting can feel like a full-time job and figuring out the best moves to make can be confusing, especially in a new labour market. Getting a peek inside the mind of a recruiter can make this process a bit easier. So, let us help with that! In this blog series our experienced recruitment consultants share their top tips to help you succeed in your job search. Learn how to make your application stand out, impress recruiters, and move through the job application process smoothly by following the advice of our experts. This month’s tips are brought to you by our recruitment consultant from our office in The Hague, Eliška Průšová.

TIP 1 - Give Your CV Some Attention

Your CV often does the talking before you even meet a recruiter or hiring manager. Spelling mistakes, inconsistent formatting, or cluttered design can quickly derail your chances. So, take a bit of extra time to make it look good and read smoothly.

  • Tailor it to the role. Highlight the skills and experiences that are the most relevant for the position you applied for.
  • Don’t stress about page count. Clarity is more important than sticking to a single page, especially if you have relevant experience to share.
  • Avoid oversharing. Keep personal details like marital status or health info off your CV. This information is not expected to be included on your CV in the Netherlands.

TIP 2 - Be Prepared for the Interview

Once you land an interview, good preparation can set you apart from other candidates.

  • Know the company. Spend some time reading up on their business, their market, and what they value. You’ll make a stronger impression if you show genuine interest in what they do.
  • Have questions ready. Interviews go both ways. Asking informed questions signals that you are genuinely curious about the role and the company.
  • Review your own track record. Be ready to talk about specific projects or challenges you have tackled, especially those that highlight why you would be a great fit.

TIP 3 - Communicate Clearly (and Promptly)

Communication is a big deal in the job search so make it a priority.

  • Respond quickly to messages. Ghosting or taking too long to reply can damage a recruiter’s confidence in you, so aim for a quick turnaround.
  • Show up on time. Life happens, of course, but if you need to reschedule or you’re running late, just give the recruiter or manager a heads-up. It shows respect for their time and keeps things professional.

Putting It All Together

A polished CV, thoughtful interview prep, and strong communication habits will help you stand out in any hiring process. Above all, remember that recruiters are there to support you—so keep the conversation going, be honest about your needs, and you’ll be well on your way to landing the right role. Good luck out there!
