Job description
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented accountant to manage the overall provision of AP / AR services, policies, processes and programs for the Amsterdam branch. This role also involves supporting the Finance Manager with ad hoc requests to meet business needs. The ideal candidate will independently handle financial administration, including accounting, taxes, and reporting tasks, while ensuring compliance with local statutory and fiscal requirements.
Main Objectives- Keep the Finance Manager informed of significant issues impacting local objectives or requiring higher-level intervention.
- Ensure local financial processes are well-documented, and systems and controls are operating effectively.
- Provide local management with core financial performance insights.
- Drive financial planning for The Netherlands by analyzing performance and risks.
- Ensure compliance with local statutory and fiscal requirements.
- Deliver timely group reporting on a periodic basis.
Financial Management and Administration- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely financial records (AP/AR/GL), including booking and reconciling sales, purchase ledgers, payroll, cash, and general ledger entries.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings, including group reporting.
- Prepare and file VAT, UWV, and other tax obligations, including corporation tax (VPB) for local entities.
- Handle intercompany accounting and reconciliation processes.
- Ensure accurate financial administration for the Netherlands, covering both holding and operating entities.
- Support the production of company and consolidated accounts, ensuring compliance with local and group standards.
- Manage cash collection and related activities.
Reporting and Compliance- Prepare detailed financial performance reports (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
- Deliver analysis and input on forecasts, budgets, and cost reports (budget vs. costs).
- Ensure compliance with financial laws, local statutory requirements, and guidelines.
- Support internal and external audits, including liaising with auditors and following up on audit packs.
- Ensure proper documentation and filing of contracts.
Process Improvement and Systems- Support project management initiatives for financial process changes and coordinate implementations.
- Assist in improving financial processes to enhance accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Finance Manager to elevate the team’s capabilities.
- Maintain and optimize finance systems, including SAP and Accountview.
Training and Development- Provide financial education to local teams through workshops, manuals, and standardized reporting templates as needed.
- Collaborate on team training initiatives to enhance knowledge and skills within the finance team.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training efforts for finance team members.
- Collaborate with the Finance Manager to set team objectives and ensure timely annual performance assessments.
Requirements
- Solid accounting expertise. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
- BSc/BA in accounting, finance, or a related field; MSc/MA or CPA qualification is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate finance, accounting principles, and best practices (NL GAAP).
- Foundational knowledge of local tax legislation (e.g., VAT, WKR).
- Proficient in financial management systems such as SAP; knowledge of Accountview is a bonus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English.
- Analytical and strategic mindset with an attention to detail.
- Dependable, adaptable, and process-oriented.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
