Payroll Specialist & Accountant

Job description
You are responsible for the payroll processing procedure for EMEA (specifically The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, France and UK). You will be the sole payroll specialist & accountant for the EMEA region, under the supervision of the Finance Manager and reporting to the Finance Director EMEA.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with HR to verify appropriate payroll approvals.
- Ensure payroll calculations are completed accurately and on time for each pay period.
- Track and reconcile paid time off (PTO) and other applicable leave types.
- Ensure all payroll records and information are 100% accurate and comply with legal regulations.
- Provide support for both internal and external payroll audits.
- Enter approved changes and register new employees into the system.
- Process manual checks and handle one-time transactions or adjustments as required.
- Develop and maintain a system of controls, procedures, and forms for recording employee benefits (this task is separate from the monthly payroll process), including WKR (Netherlands), P11Ds/PSA (UK), DE expense reporting, and other country-specific requirements.
- Investigate and resolve all reconciling items promptly.
- Prepare payroll journal entries and perform account reconciliations on a monthly basis (training is available for this).
- Manage all banking activities related to employee Payroll Portal access for all entities.
- Produce payroll-related reports and analyses for the Accounting and HR teams as needed.
- Assist in enhancing and automating payroll-related workflows.
- Serve as a backup for General Ledger (GL) tasks when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (does not have to be directly in finance; however, this is a plus)
- 5+ years of payroll experience
- Multi-country payroll experience is required (preferably EMEA -- the Netherlands and UK are most important to have experience with)
- Knowledge of applicable EU and UK rules and laws
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in payroll and accounting software and programs
- Fundamental Payroll Certification or Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred
- Understanding of GAAP is a plus
- Attention to detail and accuracy is critical
- Problem solving skills and ability to prioritize well
- Strong team work and communication skills
- Fluency in English
- Already living in the Randstad area and has a valid work permit (sponsorship is not possible).
Working conditions
- Start is ASAP
- Full-time position
- EUR 60 - 73k gross per year, including 8% holiday pay. Additional annual bonus scheme (5%; based on individual and company performance).
- 12 month contract to start. An indefinite contract is possible thereafter.
