Job description
As a Sales Support Break Bulk you grow Break Bulk & OOG and BB volumes exported to worldwide destinations, take ownership of a defined portfolio of customers in this sector, work closely with wider Sales team(s) including Head Office, and take the lead with operational teams to ensure service delivery in line with customer requirements
The key responsibilities of the Sales Support Break Bulk are divided as such
- Drive growth in export volumes within the Breakbulk (BB) / Out-of-Gauge (OOG) sector, with a particular focus on a defined portfolio of key customers.
- Build and maintain strong, multi-level relationships with clients to generate profitable and sustainable business opportunities.
- Deliver monthly progress reports highlighting key developments, achievements, and ongoing challenges within the BB/OOG segment.
- Lead freight rate negotiations in coordination with central pricing teams, ensuring competitive offerings aligned with current market conditions.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for BB/OOG bookings, ensuring process consistency and operational efficiency.
- Foster a proactive culture of equipment management, optimizing resource allocation and availability.
- Conduct regular, high-quality sales visits each week, with a balanced focus on business retention and new client acquisition.
- Create and execute strategic plans for target accounts to identify new commercial opportunities and expand service offerings.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of the company’s services and capabilities to ensure all client proposals are relevant, compelling, and aligned with customer needs.
- Provide weekly debriefs to the Sales Manager with actionable market insights and client feedback.
- Actively promote the company’s digital tools and E-commerce platforms as value-added services.
- Submit tailored rate proposals to headquarters, supported by detailed market analysis and commercial intelligence.
- Ensure both internal and external commercial teams are consistently informed with timely and relevant updates on products, services, and market developments.
Requirements
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES- Strong knowledge of the Breakbulk and Out-of-Gauge (OOG) sector, with experience supporting volume growth in this specialized area.
- Proven background in a sales-driven role within the shipping and logistics industry, with expertise in both new business development and account management.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Clear and confident communicator, capable of engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Comfortable interacting with a wide range of clients and partners, adapting communication styles as needed.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage responsibilities without close supervision.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with a commercial mindset.
- Demonstrated success and hands-on experience in the Breakbulk and OOG sector, including project coordination and client engagement.
- Confident in meeting clients face-to-face and cultivating long-term business relationships.
- Adaptable and responsive, able to prioritize and adjust to shifting business needs.
