A Generation Masterclass - An HR event to remember
“That's the magic of art and the magic of theatre: it has the power to transform an audience, an individual, or en masse, to transform them and give them an epiphanal experience that changes their life, opens their hearts and their minds and the way they think.” - Brian Stokes Mitchell
And that is exactly what we aimed to achieve with our event, Generations Masterclass, last Friday. On the 30th of November we hosted our annual HR event at the Tobacco Theater. And to build up on Brian Stokes Mitchell’s quote, we evoked this year’s topic by means of ‘Theatre’.
The topic on generations was presented by keynote speaker Aart Bontekoning and brought to life by the actors of Het Generatietheater. To kickoff this interactive masterclass, all Undutchables employees present, were invited to the stage in order to showcase the different generations in the organization - It was interesting to see that Millennials make up the majority of Undutchables’ workforce.
After this introduction Aart Bontekoning went on to talk about New Generations, evolution of social processes, diversification, issues organizations encounter when employing different generations (if not implemented correctly) and ways of including each generation to better reap the benefits. Het Generatietheater strengthened Aart Bontekoning’s monologue by staging different scenarios, with each their own learning curve on how different generations can co-exist in an organization. Het Generatietheater also solicited the help of the public with each scenario to find the best way to tackle the issue at hand. As with all great show, a bow meant the end of the first part of the masterclass. During the short break snacks and drinks were served and everyone had the time to get acquainted and discuss what they learned.
The show must go on!
After the short break it was time for the three workshops centered around Generations. Workshop 1, Let’s co-create, was presented by Anoek Neele. Aart Bontekoning focused on the aspects of Millennials in the workforce in his workshop ‘Millennials’, while Kim Jansen covered ‘How to unleash the power of generational differences’ in her workshop. Lastly, once the workshops came to an end, everyone reconvened in the main room for drinks and to network.
We already received a great deal of positive feedback and with a successful event behind us we are looking forward to next year’s event. We would like to thank Tobacco Theater for having us, Het Generatietheater, for bringing this whole experience to life, the guest speakers for their expertise and time and of course our participants for taking time out of their day to join us and make this event a success.
So long, Farewell! Until our next HR event…
