Meet Our Partner - CERTA lawyers

As an international there are a lot of steps to figure out in order to make your dream of working and living in the Netherlands a reality. It can be overwhelming to try and decipher the Dutch system and to know who to turn to for help. Although our focus at Undutchables is on helping you find a job, we know that getting established in the Netherlands involves more than just landing a great new position. That's why we have teamed up with some great companies that can assist you with the other steps of the process. We interviewed one of our partners this week and want to give you a chance to get to know them and learn about their services as well, so without further ado, let us introduce our legal partner - CERTA lawyers.

1. What is CERTA lawyers?

CERTA lawyers is an independent Dutch law firm based in Amsterdam and Bussum, with a total  team of 30 professionals. Founded in 2004, the firm operates through specialised practice groups and provides clients with access to full service legal support across multiple areas of law. Our team consists of experienced lawyers, paralegals, and support staff working closely together to deliver pragmatic, solution oriented legal advice.

2. Why do you do what you do?

At CERTA, our guiding principle is: legal services are a means to an end — your progress. We believe legal solutions should not only provide certainty but also create opportunities. Our mission is to deliver top quality legal advice with a human touch, grounded in professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and continuous development.

3. Which products/services do you offer?

With a multidisciplinary structure, we support clients at every stage of a transaction or legal matter.

  • Employment Law (core focus): reorganisations, outsourcing, dismissals, employment conditions, transfer of undertaking, and employment-law aspects of mergers and acquisitions.
  • Works Council law: advising and representing works councils and participation councils, including litigation before the Enterprise Chamber and subdistrict courts.
  • Additional Practice Areas: administrative law, corporate law, contract law, real estate, insolvency, commercial disputes, and debt collection.

4. What is the current market like in your industry?

The Dutch and European legal market is becoming increasingly international, with growing complexity in employment regulations and cross border labour matters. Companies face evolving rules on reorganisations, international staffing, compliance, and employee mobility. Through our global networks (LAWorld and Lexlink), we provide seamless cross border legal support to meet these needs.

5. What are your unique selling points for the international community?

  • Strong international orientation via LAWorld, where our partner Matthijs Bos currently serves as Global Chairman.
  • Multilingual lawyers advising international clients daily.
  • Extensive experience supporting international employers, directors, and expats.
  • Fast, pragmatic, solution driven approach that international organisations value.

6. What has been your most memorable moment working with internationals?

Hosting and co organising international legal conferences in Amsterdam through LAWorld, welcoming delegates from more than 40 countries and facilitating meaningful cross border collaboration.

7. Do you have any industry tips for our readers?

  • Stay informed about yearly developments in Dutch employment law, they often have direct impact on international employers.
  • Seek early legal guidance during reorganisations or cross border employment situations to avoid complications later on.
  • Ensure contracts, policies, and compliance structures meet multi-jurisdictional requirements when operating internationally.
