We look forward to hearing from you!
We have shared a lot with you about our company, our events, the Netherlands as a country and their traditions. We feel like it is high time you got acquainted with some of our colleagues. This blog will give you more insight into the life of a recruiter, the challenges they face, their most memorable moments and their guilty pleasures. This week we will introduce our recruiter from Eindhoven, Nora Kalmey. Enjoy!
I actually had an interview as a candidate with Undutchables myself. Back then I was looking for a position with a strong people and communication focus. Lucky me, this position was open and a month later I changed from an Undutchables candidate to a colleague. 😊
I very much enjoy getting to know candidates. Through learning about their CVs, you also always learn a lot about their life trajectory. At the same time, I also always very much enjoy in-person client visits and getting to know companies and how their work dynamics.
Less enjoyable are the rejections and when I am not able to offer job opportunities to candidates who are very much in need, especially in the financially and economically challenging times that we are living in at the moment.
A challenge of this job is to stay motivated when companies reject candidates who could have been a really good match. Also, a challenge is to keep all stakeholders in the loop and in close exchange when communication takes longer on one side. As a recruiter you are in the middle of client and candidate and want to ensure a reliable and smooth communication process.
Most enjoyable are the times when you place a candidate, as this is when the work of weeks pays off. Giving candidates the good news that they are hired is super nice, especially seeing their excitement when they really wanted the position!
I think it is key to listen well! For the recruiter, this means listening well to both clients and candidates to ensure sustainable matches. Only then can you really understand their needs, read between the lines to gain relevant information, and, ultimately, grasp what candidates and clients are looking for.
For some time, I was considering traveling around the world with Doctors without Borders (as a psychologist) and trying to give some immediate support to people and children in need. Besides that, I could also imagine working as a physical therapist.
It’s chocolate, I admit.
Quickfire questions
Q: Coffee or tea
A: Both, tea-time (& cake) is a must when meeting with my family; coffee is my daily supporter at work.
Q: Sun or snow?
A: Sun! Sun! Sun! I like it warm. Yet, snow is also high in the race, especially when I can go snowboarding.
Q: Are you a morning or a night person?
A: Easy one - Night.
Q: If you could go any where in the world where would you go and why?
A: Ghana, my go-to-country and the country I fell in love with when living there after high-school. However, there are still many more nice places (new favorite places) to be explored in the upcoming times!
