Meet the Recruiter - Nunu van Dijk
We have shared a lot with you about our company, our events, the Netherlands as a country and their traditions. We feel like it is high time you got acquainted with some of our colleagues. This blog will give you more insight into the life of a recruiter, the challenges they face, their most memorable moments and their guilty pleasures. This week we will introduce our Eindhoven recruiter, Nunu van Dijk. Enjoy!
1. How did you end up in recruitment?
It was actually by accident. I was applying for another role at another company and since the company was looking for someone who speaks multiple languages and has experience in customer service, they asked me whether I would be interested in working as a recruiter instead.
2. What are the most/least enjoyable aspects of recruiting?
The most enjoyable aspect of recruiting is that I am able to speak with different people throughout the day. It is really interesting to get to know them, their background, experiences, what made them uproot their entire life in their country of origin to come to the Netherlands, and sometimes I get to practice my language skills! The least enjoyable part? I guess I have to say sales hahaha… I am definitely not great in sales even though I come from a long line of sales family.
3. What is the biggest challenge of the job?
The biggest challenge of the job is finding the 'unicorn' of a candidate. As in, a candidate that speaks uncommon languages, has a particular skill set, and is available immediately and willing to take a lower salary.
4. What has been your most memorable moment in the job?
Most memorable moment in the job… This is a tough one since I’ve only been here for a few months. I would say my first placement. Maybe it sounds cliché, but it is a nice feeling to know that you worked together with a candidate to get their first job.
5.What do you think is key for a successful recruiting process?
I think ownership is the key to a successful recruiting process. Treat every candidate and every client special, build connections and relationships with them - make it personal.
6. If you were to have a job outside an office environment, what would be your dream job?
My dream job is to run and own a restaurant/cafe that sells authentic Indonesian street food.
7. What's your guilty pleasure?
Food! Any kind! I tend to eat too much *sigh*
