New Paid Parental Leave Policy
At the moment parents are able to take up to 26 weeks of unpaid parental leave, and can make use of this up until the child is eight years old. Thanks to a new European guideline parents will now, as of August 2nd, 2022, receive payment during the first 9 weeks of this parental leave. The payment will be in the form of an allowance from the UWV. The parent will receive 70% of their daily wage, up to 70% of the official maximum daily wage, for the first 9 weeks of parental leave.
These 9 weeks of paid parental leave must be taken within one year of the child's birth. The additional 17 weeks of parental leave can be used any time up until the child's 8th birthday. These remaining weeks of leave will be unpaid unless the applicable collective labour agreement or company policy states differently.
If you have any additional questions feel free to let us know or contact the UWV for more specific information.
